About Smarter Systems
Smarter Systems is a North Carolina-based regional design–build audiovisual integration company creating better ways to connect, collaborate, and communicate. From classrooms to boardrooms, we design and deliver technology solutions that make meetings more productive and learning more engaging — all with a focus on reliability, simplicity, and great user experience.
About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced Audio Video Design Engineer to join our growing team. You’ll be the technical backbone of our projects — designing systems, developing drawings and documentation, supporting our sales and operations teams, and ensuring our projects deliver on performance, budget, and quality.
If you’re a problem-solver who enjoys designing real-world technology experiences — not just boxes and wires — we’d love to talk.
What You’ll Do
Design and specify commercial AV systems for conferencing, collaboration, and presentation environments
Develop detailed drawings (signal flow, elevations, RCPs, floor plans) using AutoCAD, Visio, D-tools or similar
Work closely with sales and project management from concept through completion
Build complete Bill of Materials, Scope of Work, and design documentation
Evaluate new technologies, maintain vendor relationships, and propose innovative solutions
Attend design and coordination meetings, internal and client-facing
Perform site visits to verify conditions or inspect installations
Support commissioning and final system verification as needed
What You Bring
- 5–7 years of experience in AV design and system engineering
- Strong working knowledge of AV system components, DSP, control, and UC platforms
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite (Visio, D-Tools experience a plus)
- Excellent attention to detail, documentation, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Collaborative approach with strong communication skills
- CTS or CTS-D certification preferred
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed
Why You’ll Love Working Here
- A collaborative, growth-oriented culture where your ideas matter
- Competitive pay + bonus opportunities
- Full benefits package: health, dental, vision, 401(k) with match, HSA/FSA, paid time off, and more
- Opportunities for certification reimbursement and professional development
- Monday–Friday schedule, primarily in-office with occasional fieldwork
Location: Winston-Salem, NC (in-person role)
Job Type: Full-time
