We are looking for an innovative, creative, and collaborative Music Production Teacher for our new high school music studio! We are located near the beautiful white sands on the Gulf Coast in Alabama and are a public PK-12, small school district with many unique opportunities for our students, including a state of the art music lab and studio space! The music lab will be a major highlight of our new high school facility (opening in August 2026) and includes an outdoor stage and amphitheater in the courtyard. This is a career tech (CTE) program and a background is education is not required if you have industry experience. There is a dedicated pathway to certification through CTE for folks who come to us directly from industry.
The teacher will provide high-quality instruction in music production, audio engineering, digital media, and related music industry pathways through the Music Lab at Gulf Shores High School, preparing students for postsecondary education and careers in music production, recording, live sound, and entertainment technology through hands-on, project-based learning. The Music Production Teacher will oversee the operation of the Music Production Studio, an industry-level music production facility and facilitate authentic learning experiences in recording and live event production.

JOB TITLE: Music Production Teacher (9 month - 187 days)
RESPONSIBLE TO: Principal
JOB GOAL: To provide high-quality instruction in music production, audio engineering, digital media, and related music industry pathways through the Music Lab at Gulf Shores High School, preparing students for postsecondary education and careers in music production, recording, live sound, and entertainment technology through hands-on, project-based learning. The Music Production Teacher will oversee the operation of the Music Production Studio, an industry-level music production facility and facilitate authentic learning experiences in recording and live event production.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Production, Music Technology, Audio Engineering, Music Education, or related field.
- Valid Alabama teacher certificate (or ability to obtain one).
- Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups, for the purpose of maximizing student achievement.
- Experience using digital audio workstations (e.g., Logic Pro, Pro Tools, Ableton, or similar).
- Knowledge of recording studio equipment, mixing boards, microphones, and live sound systems.
- Strong classroom management and instructional skills.
- Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member.
- Ability to use technology to communicate, to plan and provide instruction, to facilitate student learning, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.
- Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.
- Ability to move and set up audio equipment and instruments.
- Ability to work in studio and stage production environments.
- Ability to supervise students in technology-based labs and performance spaces.
- Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
- Such alternative qualifications to those listed as the Board may require.
Requirements
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach courses related to Music Production, Audio Recording and Engineering, Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs), Live Sound and Event Production, Music Technology and Media Production
- Design and implement project-based lessons that simulate real-world music production environments.
- Guide students in creating original music, recordings, podcasts, and multimedia projects.
- Teach music industry concepts including recording workflows, mixing/mastering, copyright, publishing, and distribution.
- Integrate Apple and digital technologies used throughout Gulf Shores City Schools to support creative learning.
- Manage and operate the Music Lab recording studio and production space.
- Maintain professional-grade recording equipment, instruments, and music production software.
- Supervise student use of recording studios, editing suites, and production stage areas.
- Develop programming that mirrors industry practices in recording, live sound, and music production.
- Ensure safe and responsible use of all studio equipment.
- Coordinate with local businesses and community partners to support industry experiences for students.
- Facilitate internship, mentorship, and experiential learning opportunities related to local music venues.
- Invite guest speakers, musicians, producers, and industry professionals to engage with students.
- Help students develop portfolios, recordings, and projects demonstrating their skills in music production.
- Support students in developing creativity, collaboration, and technical skills relevant to the music and entertainment industries.
- Advise students interested in careers in music production, sound engineering, event production, and related fields.
- Encourage participation in school and community music events and productions.
- Promote the Music Lab program through school performances, showcases, and community events.
- Collaborate with other arts, technology, and CTE programs within the district.
- Assist with events, performances, and multimedia productions that highlight student work.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and program outcomes.
- Participate in professional development related to music technology and production.
- Stay current with emerging music production technologies, software, and industry practices.
- Follow all district policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
